Lightning Baccarat, priced
Random multipliers up to 8x sound like free money. The fee that pays for them is not.
How it works
Every hand, one to five cards get random multipliers from 2x to 8x. If your winning hand contains a lightning card, the payout is multiplied. To fund that, every bet pays a mandatory 20% fee: a $100 bet costs $120, and the fee is gone whether you win or lose.
The return
| Bet | Standard baccarat RTP | Lightning Baccarat RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Banker | 98.94% | 98.76% |
| Player | 98.76% | 98.58% |
| Tie | 85.64% | lower, and the tie pays 5 to 1 instead of 8 |
The multipliers give back most of the fee, not all of it. Expected return per hand is slightly lower than standard baccarat, and the variance is much higher: most hands lose the fee and win a plain payout, a few hands pay 8x. If you enjoy that shape, fine. If you are playing a rule set, it makes every bet cost 20% more for a lower expectation.
For system players
A bet-sizing system assumes the stake you place is the stake at risk. Lightning tables break that: $120 at risk pays as if $100 was bet unless a multiplier hits. Play the rules on a standard table and keep the multiplier tables for entertainment.
